Former Ghana international Samuel Inkoom is urging unwavering support for the Black Stars ahead of the start of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Black Stars will be competing for the title in neighbouring country, Ivory Coast as the search for a fifth AFCON title continues.

Speaking ahead of the tournament, Inkoom, a member of the Black Stars squad that reached the finals of the 2010 AFCON has urged Ghanaians to unite and rally behind the team to succeed at the tournament in Ivory Coast.

“You know I want us to do as Ghanaians? I want us to be like a team, lets come together and support the team. if we support the team, the current team can replicate what we did for the country”

“If we dwell more on negativity, it means we are the one bringing the team down. If we have confidence in the team, pray for the team as we normally do as Ghanaians and can do what we did for the 2009 U20 squad, I believe this team will have something special for us” he said.

The team arrived in Ivory Coast on Wednesday afternoon ahead of the tournament which starts this weekend.

The Black Stars will open their account against Cape Verde on Sunday, January 14, 2024 before taking on Egypt and Mozambique on January 18 and 22 respectively in Group B.

Ghana have a history of success in the AFCON, having won the title four times, most recently in 1982. However, they have experienced defeat in three finals since then, including losses to Ivory Coast in 1992 on penalties and Egypt in 2010, as well as a repeat defeat to Ivory Coast in 2015.
