Former Bibiani Goldstars tactician Michael Osei has shared how the Black Stars can make a meaningful impact at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Ghana are in search of their fifth continental trophy having last won in 1982. The Black Stars will be competing for the title in neighbouring country, Ivory Coast.

The tournament is scheduled to kick off on Saturday, January 13 through to February 11, 2024.

Osei was in attendance when the Black Stars played out a 0-0 draw against Namibia in a pre-AFCON friendly on Monday night.

Speaking to Kessben FM monitored by Footballghana.com, Osei urged the team to improve in both attack and defense if they are to make impact at the AFCON tournament.

“We need to be better in both attack and defense. We have to be composed in defense and also be clinical in opponents’ box” he said.

The West Africa powerhouse are expected to depart Ghana for Ivory Coast on Wednesday, January 10, 2024.

Ghana will open their account against Cape Verde on Sunday, January 14, 2024 before taking on Egypt and Mozambique on January 18 and 22 respectively in Group B.

The Black Stars have a history of success in the AFCON, having won the title four times, most recently in 1982. However, they have experienced defeat in three finals since then, including losses to Ivory Coast in 1992 on penalties and Egypt in 2010, as well as a repeat defeat to Ivory Coast in 2015.
