Coach Chris Hughton has shed light on the decision to substitute winger Osman Bukari in the 89th minute.
The forward had only entered the field in the 73rd minute, replacing Inaki Williams, but his brief appearance was marked by a critical error that allowed Mostafa Mohamed to score.
Hughton, in a post-match revelation, disclosed that the substitution was a response to concerns about Bukari's mindset following the pivotal mistake.
The coach hinted at a collective decision within the coaching staff that deemed it necessary to withdraw Bukari, believing the weight of his error might have adversely affected his performance.
"Osman Bukari is a fabulous player he has had a good season and he is a player we like as an individual and as a player. After the mistake sometimes your emotions can get hold of you and we felt and you could only feel this when you are close on the touchline," Chris Hughton said after the game.
"We felt the mistake because it is an emotional game we felt it affected him a little bit so we decided to make the change this is nothing personal against anybody we like him a lot and it doesn't go against anything that we think of him he is a super player and will continue to be," he added.
Ghana will now turn its attention to the must-win game against Mozambique which will be played on Monday 22nd January 2024. The game will kick off at 20:00 GMT.
