Burkina Faso star Edmond Tapsoba has excluded Ghana from his list of favourite to annex the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.
Tapsoba, who plies his trade for German outfit Bayer Leverkusen will be competing in the AFCON tournament with Burkina Faso in Group D.
Speaking to ONTime Sports, the enterprising defender expressed preference for Morocco, Senegal and Ivory Coast as the top favourites for the competition, which starts this weekend.
“The Africa Cup of Nations is special for us. We are stronger than we have been in previous editions because we have improved a lot in every position.”
“There is no small team. I can say that Morocco, Senegal, and Ivory Coast will have a higher chance of winning the tournament than other participating teams,” he concluded.
The tournament is scheduled to kick off on Saturday, January 13 through to February 11, 2024.
The Black Stars will open their account against Cape Verde on Sunday, January 14, 2024 before taking on Egypt and Mozambique on January 18 and 22 respectively in Group B.
Ghana have a history of success in the AFCON, having won the title four times, most recently in 1982. However, they have experienced defeat in three finals since then, including losses to Ivory Coast in 1992 on penalties and Egypt in 2010, as well as a repeat defeat to Ivory Coast in 2015.
