Executive Council member of the Ghana Football Association, Nana Oduro Sarfo has faulted the Black Stars technical team led by Chris Hughton for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations failure.
Ghana bowed out at group stage after failing to win any of their group games. The West Africa powerhouse drew two games and suffered a defeat against, finishing in third place in Group B, behind Cape Verde and Egypt.
In response, the Ghana FA relieved off Chris Hughton and the entire Black Stars technical team following the team’s poor showing at the AFCON.
Meanwhile, the FA has set up a five-member committee to search for a new coach to take over the national team.
In an interview with Asempa FM, Oduro Sarfo cited back pass as the team’s short fall going into the AFCON but says Chris Hughton and his backroom staff failed to resolve it before the tournament.
“Chris Hughton failed to work on back passes. I watched the America and Mexico friendlies and the team made 42 back passes”
“I asked the coaches why and they said they would work on it and because they didn't work on it, Inaki Williams committed an error and gave a back pass. Osman Bukari committed an error and gave a back pass. So the technical team were not good enough” he said.
