Ghana football legend, Mohammed Polo has called on the playing body of the Black Stars to show commitment in the play ahead of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The West African country will hope to improve their performance having exited at the group phase at the last edition of the AFCON in Cameroon.

The Black Stars will come up against Egypt, Cape Verde and Mozambique in Group B.

With the team seeking to end its 41-year AFCON trophy drought, Polo has urged the team to show commitment and hunger in their play.

"It is high time Black Stars players show commitment for Ghanaians to love them more as first because there's no hope anymore," he told Asanteman MEDIA Network.

"Black Stars won the previous AFCON trophy with hunger and sacrifice without money mentality.

"Although money is very important in living but good sacrifice earns extra things together with the money.

"Our players must be fully determined and have an enthusiastic spirit to deliver when Ghanaians need them," he added.

Meanwhile, the Black Stars will now open camp in Kumasi on January 2 ahead of the tournament in Ivory Coast.

The Black Stars of Ghana will first come up against Cape Verde at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium in Abidjan on January 14, 2024, then face Egypt at the same venue four days later and then Mozambique at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium on January 22, 2024.

The 34th edition of the AFCON has been scheduled to kick off from January 13 to February 11.
