Former Bibiani Goldstars coach Michael Osei has as voiced his discontent about the performance of the Black Stars following defeat to Cape Verde.
The West Africa powerhouse succumbed to a 2-1 defeat to Cape Verde, courtesy goals from Jamiro Monteiro and Garry Rodrigues.
Cape Verde opened the scoring after 17 minutes through Monteiro, who easily tapped in a rebound after Richard Ofori parried a long shot before the Black Stars level the pegging through Fenerbache defender Alexander Djiku.
However, comical defending led to Cape Verde scoring a late winner through Garry Rodrigues.
Speaking to Kessben FM monitored by Footballghana.com, the former Asante Kotoko gaffer expressed goals conceded against Cape Verde was avoidable.
“They hurt the country when they come and exhibit abysmal performance. There are a lot of things they shouldn’t from the coach because of the level they play in their various clubs. We conceded cheap and preventable goals and if we don’t solve the problem now, going into our next games, we will have ourselves to blame”
“The players need to lift themselves and fight for the national flag. We all blame coaches after every poor performance but forget that the players are seriously to be blamed as well. They play high level of football and know the nitty gritty of football. We lack many things tactically and we need to lift ourselves if we want to go far in the tournament”
The Black Stars will face Egypt in their second Group B game on Thursday, January 18, 2024.
Ghana now find themselves in a challenging position in Group following the defeat. They are currently bottom on the table without a point.
