1978 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) winner, Mohammed Polo believes the Black Stars have what it takes to stop Mohamed Salah.
The Liverpool attacker will be leading the Pharaohs of Egypt for the 34th edition of the AFCON in Ivory Coast. Salah, who has made a total of 27 appearances for the Premier League side in all competitions has netted 17 goals with eight assists to his credit.
Ghana, who are hoping to win their fifth title will face the record champions of the AFCON on Thursday, January 18 at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium in Abidjan in their second group game.
Despite the shaky performance of the team Black Stars in recent games, Polo is confident the team will be able to stop Mohamed Salah.
“I think we have the players capable of stopping his danger. This is definitely the work of the technical staff,” he told btolat.com.
Polo further said he expects the Black Stars to finish as runners-up in Group B.
"I expect Ghana to qualify as runner-up to Egypt in Group Two, but advancement will not be easy in the presence of Cape Verde and Mozambique,” the former Hearts of Oak coach added.
The Black Stars of Ghana will first come up against Cape Verde at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium in Abidjan on January 14 before wrapping up their group games against Mozambique at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium on January 22, 2024.
