The Ghana Football Association's pre-tournament preparations for the 2023 Afcon in Ivory Coast have taken an intriguing twist.
The initial blueprint, which involved an encounter with Botswana, has been overhauled due to the timely intervention of Namibia.
Ghana Football Association spokesman Henry Asante Twum revealed that the Namibian side's request for a friendly game has not only altered their strategy but has also alleviated a financial burden.
According to Twum, the friendly match against Namibia carries no cost, providing the association with an unforeseen opportunity to redirect funds earmarked for the Botswana encounter.
In a candid reaction to the scrapped South Africa camping plan, Twum emphasized that public sentiments played no role in this strategic shift. Instead, it was Namibia's proactive initiative that prompted the Ghanaian team to reassess and recalibrate their pre-tournament strategy.
With the new plan in place, Ghana is set to camp in Kumasi, a change that brings its own dynamics to the team's preparation.
As the countdown to the 2023 Afcon intensifies, all eyes will now be on Kumasi, where Ghana will square off against Namibia in a friendly clash.
"At least we know we have one higher intensity game to play in Kumasi with no cost in the past we were going to pay if we would have gone to South Africa we will get Botswana today luckily for us and it is a major factor that came up in the meeting," he told Joy Sports.
"Luckily for us, we woke up four days ago and received a letter from our brothers in Namibia that they were coming to Ghana to camp here.
"So the Namibia camping in Ghana argument settles everything so at the end of the day you are not going to spend that substantial amount that I spoke about earlier,"
