Ghanaian forward Maxwell Boakye has advised the Black Stars not to underestimate group opponent Mozambique at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Ghana are placed in Group B of the 2023 AFCON, alongside Cape Verde, Egypt, and Mozambique.
The Black Stars will be competing for the title in neighbouring country, Ivory Coast next month as the search for a fifth AFCON title continues.
Speaking to Footballghana.com, Boakye, who plies his trade for Ferroviario de Maputo in Mozambique urged the Black Stars not underrate the Mambas at the tournament.
“I will advise the Black Stars not to underestimate Mozambique because they have a good squad. Their team is dominated by local players and per what I have seen, I think Mozambique can cause an upset. On paper, you may think Ghana can ease past them but it won’t be easy for the Black Stars” he said.
Meanwhile, the Ghana FA has canceled initial plan to camp in South Africa and will now stage their preparation for the tournament in Kumasi.
The Black Stars have a history of success in the AFCON, having won the title four times, most recently in 1982. However, they have experienced defeat in three finals since then, including losses to Ivory Coast in 1992 on penalties and Egypt in 2010, as well as a repeat defeat to Ivory Coast in 2015.
The tournament is scheduled to kick off on Saturday, January 13 through to February 11, 2024.
