According to Henry Asante Twum, the spokesman for the Ghana Football Association, the prime catalyst behind the team's choice of camping location is the quest for a serene and distraction-free environment.
Players, it seems, are increasingly insistent on certain prerequisites from the Ghana FA as they gear up for major tournaments. Chief among these demands is the necessity for an environment that fosters concentration and minimizes external disruptions.
Henry Asante Twum's remarks come in the aftermath of the decision to abandon the initially planned pre-tournament camp in South Africa for the upcoming 2023 Afcon.
Ghana, undeterred by this alteration, has recalibrated its strategy, opting to camp in Kumasi instead. The team is set to engage in a friendly match against Namibia as part of their preparation for the Afcon tournament, which is scheduled to unfold in Ivory Coast.
"The important consideration of all is the serene atmosphere, the distraction-free atmosphere there was an argument about oh you have been playing in Kumasi and we have given you the best," he told Joy Sports.
"If you are camping for three days or two days before a game the conditions are totally different completely different time for a major tournament even the build-up, your training, your pattern, preparation, mindset psychology, team preparation, evaluation all those factors are completely different from playing a one off game.
"There might be different players of camping since 2006 but there will be number one reason and other reasons and i am glad to say the number one reason of all the players you have listed is the fact we have always wanted to be at a place were there is less or o distraction.
"These players always ask for certain things that need to be provided it is mostly difficult to camp our places in Ghana because by the time you wake up in the morning, the lobby of the team hotel is full is either friends coming to visit, is either relations mother or father coming to see his or her child or her son or his son, or maybe people coming around I want autograph, or colleagues of mine coming around for exclusives," he added.
