Former Kumasi Asante Kotoko striker, Mark Adu Amofah, has called upon the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to reassess its strategies in order to address the deteriorating state of Colts football in the country.
Speaking at the A. A Sports International Launch, Amofah commended fellow football legend Asamoah Gyan for his commendable efforts in promoting youth football through the Baby Jet U16 Football Tournament.
Recognizing Gyan as a true legend and a source of inspiration for aspiring young players, Amofah reminisced about their time together at Liberty, describing Gyan as a valuable senior figure.
He highlighted the significance of Gyan's involvement in grassroots football development, emphasizing the need for such role models within the sport.
Having emerged from the Colts era himself, Amofah expressed his concern over the absence of Colts games in the present football landscape.
Mark Adu Amofah began his football journey with Young Brazilians, a Colts football club in Ghana, before progressing to Fauzan FC.
“He [Gyan] is a true legend and we are all looking up to him.
“He was my senior at Liberty.
“We should count ourselves lucky to have somebody like him [Gyan] around who is willing to get into grassroots and develop.
“I came from the Colts era.
“Now, there’s no Colts games anymore.
“I appeal to the FA to bring back the Colts.
“We are suffering now because they destroyed the Colts’ football system some years back, and the repercussions are what we see now.”
Throughout his career, the now 35-year-old retired goal poacher featured for renowned teams such as Liberty Professionals, Real Sportive, as well as clubs in South Africa, Denmark, Israel, and Bahrain. Amofah ultimately concluded his professional career in 2014.
