Ghana goalkeeper, Richard Ofori has issued an apology to Ghanaians for the poor performance of the Black Stars at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.

The experienced shot-stopper was part of the Ghana squad at the ongoing tournament in Ivory Coast.

After a series of mistakes from Richard Ofori while starting in the post in all three matches, the worst came in the final minutes of the last group game against Mozambique and led to a goal that sealed Ghana’s exit.

A week after that game, Richard Ofori has now apologised to Ghanaians.

According to him, it pains him that the Black Stars could not achieve their goals at the tournament.

“To the wonderful people of Ghana, I humbly extend my heartfelt apologies for our team's performance at AFCON. As a collective, we fell short. We gave our all in previous games, and it pains me that we couldn't achieve the desired result in the end,” Richard Ofori said.

The goalkeeper continued, “I want to express our gratitude for your unwavering support and reassure you that we love God and are committed to learning from this experience. We promise to work harder, address our mistakes, and strive for a better outcome in the future. Your understanding means the world to us.”

Meanwhile, many Ghanaians have called for Richard Ofori's retirement from the Black Stars.
